Why won't my English bulldog puppy walk on the road outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 7 days old | 22 lbs

My English bulldog puppy won't walk down our road but will walk everywhere else. We have had him checked by our vet and he has no medical issues, his brother loves to walk. He has a halti harness and light weight extendable lead. Any advice would be appreciated. (It is the Black and white one who won't walk).

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Adorable picture! It sounds like he is scared. So you want to take it slowly. Use treats and your other dog to help him. Coax him to go short distances with the treats. he could be afraid of loud noises or cars. If this doesn't work it sound like a severe phobia and you should hire a veterinary behaviorist or trainer. I and most vets are not fans of extendable leashes. I would get a regular to help gently pull him Good luck!
