Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 10 years and 5 months old | 48 lbs
Hello! I have a 10 year old Australian shepherd who x 4 days has runny eyes with minimal green to clear puss, a drippy nose and it sounds like she is clearing her throat almost as a cat would a hairball. Her eyes have now become bloodshot. She is a very energetic dog but she has been sleeping a lot lately and drinking extra water x 1 day. I thank you for your help, Dawn

This sounds like she has a mild cold or upper respiratory infection. Generally these are viral colds and will run their course over a week or so. Just like with us no antibiotics are needed unless she develops a secondary bacterial infection. If the discharge becomes green and her condition worsens then please bring her right in for treatment. She could give this to other dogs so letting her rest at home until she recovers is the best plan. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Sydney.
