My dog has dark vaginal discharge after tick fever and heat cycle

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boerboel | Female | unspayed | 40.7 lbs

My boerboel, Nikita, (2 years) got diagnosed with tick fever a few days ago, we received medicine and she's slowly recovering but she seems to be having some vaginal discharge, it looks dark. P.s she was on heat 2 or 3 weeks ago. What could it be?

I am afraid, there should not be a vaginal discharge as this could point to a uterine infection. You will need to take Nikita back to your veterinarian for a recheck/exam of the genital tract. If Nikita has a uterine infection (pyometra/hemometra) then this would be life-threatening and must be treated right away.
