My Yorkie has a hard, recurring bump on his back. How do I treat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 lbs

Hello, I have a 4 1/2 year old Yorkshire terrier. He has a pimple, about 2-3 millimeters in width, it is hard, not itchy, not painful, but has a pointy hard bit. It annoys me more, then him as it is in the middle of his back. He has a silkie coat and this hard pimple is so annoying. Appeared all of a sudden. There is no puss, just hardened skin about 1-2 millimeter off the skin. Dog is very well otherwise. How do I treat this. I have scratched it off once, but seems to come back again.

I would recommend bringing Maxi to the veterinarian. The only way to treat it is surgical removal if it is a cyst or a growth. Your veterinarian would be able to determine exactly what it is and what the course of treatment would be. WIthout physically seeing this it is difficult to say what treatment would be. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
