My dog has a BB pellet in his nose. Does he need vet care if fine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I accidentally shot my dog with a steel bb pellet, it hit the top of his nose. It’s at the top surface, I’m pretty sure the bb is in his nose, I can see it from the surface, it’s about 1/4 of an inch in from the entry point. He bled just a little and didnt cry and hasn’t cried, he’s a big dog, like 50 pounds maybe. Just a little bleeding. Will he be fine or should I go to the vet to have it extracted ? He seems to be unfazed by it, he’s running around the yard having fun

If it is visible and easily spotted, it would be a good idea to have it removed. We only leave bbs in the animal if taking them out would cause more damage than leaving them in. So a sub-surface BB is likely easily removed. I would be worried about infection as the BB is in an area where your dog sniffs the ground and may contaminate it with dirt.
