Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 18 years and 8 months old | 9.5 lbs

Hi tony is on amlodipine for hi blood pressure and my vet is getting ready to start him on mirtazapine appetite stimulant so he’ll hopefully eat his kidney diet. Can mirtazapine affect his blood pressure? Thx

Mirtazapine is safe to use with amlodipine. Mirtazapine at high doses could potentially decrease blood pressure, but at typically prescribed doses, it is safe to give with amlodipine. Your vet may want to monitor blood pressure a few days after starting the mirtazapine just to be sure its all looking good. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
