Hello, My six month old kitten was spayed and had a bad reaction to the suture material used. The sutures were removed a week later in the layer of skin and fat, and the damaged tissue was removed. There was no visible effect on the layer of muscle so the vet surgeon opted not to go any further and to leave the rest of the sutures in. My question is, is that safe? It’s actually fairly common for cats to have a suture reaction in the subcutaneous layer of tissue but not the muscle and linea alba. While it’s impossible to know exactly how everything looked I too would have left body wall sutures in place if there seemed to be normal healing since reopening the abdominal incision could increase risk for contamination in the abdomen.
