Kitten URI: Bloody nasal discharge when sneezing. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 28 days old | 2 lbs

My kitten has had an ongoing upper respiratory infection and has taken two oral antibiotics and is currently on his third antibiotic which was an injection lasting 14 days. Today, I noticed some blood occurring in his nasal discharge when sneezing. Is this an emergency?

Is it a lot of blood or just a drop? if it is a lot of blood I recommend emergency. If it is a drop and only happened once and he is acting ok then you can wait. There are veterinarians typically open on Saturday that are not emergency hospitals. I would talk with your veterinarian about a possible polyp if he consistently is having respiratory issues.
