Is it safe to give a partial flea medicine dose to my tiny puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 13 days old | 2.2 lbs

Hi! I have a chihuahua puppy that weighs 1kg and is 3 month old. I would like to know if I can apply part of a Pulvex ampoule on her (the one indicated for dogs less than 15 kg and more than 2 weeks old). Since shes weighs so much less than 15kg I believe that it’s not necessary to apply the whole quantity of the product. Am I right?

Unfortunately part of an ampoule may be an underdose of medication so I wouldn't recommend giving just some of the product - it may not work. Pulvex contains permethrin which some dogs can be sensitive to - I think your best bet would be to contact your veterinarian to see if there is a preventative that they would recommend for a dog as small as Yuki. Another option might be to try a product with fipronil if available over the counter near you - fipronil is generally a safer medication although it's effectiveness can vary.
