How long do German Shepherds live? Is 11 years a good age for them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

It's about my dog who crossed the rainbow bridge a month ago.. Zorro. He was an eleven years old GSD. I know it's no use asking any questions now. But the only thing that makes me restless is that I feel he has gone too soon. Within a time span of 15 days he was gone.He suffered from incontinence. But had a good appetite... though the reflexes were a little weak. Then suddenly he was diagnosed with acute kidney failure and he left us.. Is eleven years an age good enough for gsd to leave???

I'm sorry to hear about Zorro. 11 years old is pretty good for a GSD, many of them only live until they are around 9 or so. Kidney disease is dogs is very serious, and most don't live long after diagnosis. It sounds like he was well taken care of, and as difficult as it is, know that he had a good life with you and try and remember the good times. 11 years is actually quite a long time for his breed. I hope that helps.
