Why does my puppy have a growing, scaly, hairless spot on his ear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 28 days old | 85 lbs

My (11 month) puppy has a white hairless spot on his ear that started off as a sore. I noticed the sore about a week ago and was about a quarter of an inch in diameter but has doubled in size since.

The skin itself has a scaly and bump appearance to it, which often means there is a bacterial or fungal infection present. I would recommend taking Snow in to your vet to have the area tested to determine which infection is present so that the proper medication is prescribed. I hope that Snow’s spot heals well soon. Best wishes and take care.
