Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer | Female | spayed | 5 years and 3 months old | 75 lbs
My 5 years old female german pointer started drooling excessively after having a lot of diarrhea today. Is there anything I could do? She looks thin and exhausted. Should I be concerned?

Hi. Yes this does sound concerning. Drooling is a sign of nausea usually, or an oral irrirant or lesion in the mouth. If she has diarrhea too, I would say its most likely nausea. This can be caused by gi disease, something they ate, infection, something stuck in intestines, or many other causes. She should be seen with these signs.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Those are signs of nausea. Loss of appetite and nausea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Digs evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Drooling can be a sign of nausea, which may be why she hasn't eaten as much today. I would keep an eye on her for now, as she may have just eaten something that has upset her stomach. Given that she isn't vomiting or having diarrhea, it's ok to monitor her. If she is still lethargic and not eating as much tomorrow, or develops vomiting or diarrhea, then I would take her into the vet for an exam.

Drooling is often a sign of nausea. It sounds as Nica is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
