Does apple cider vinegar help dog skin yeast and odor issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months old | 115 lbs

Does Apple Cider Vinegar work good for yeast infections? I want to give it to my dog under his beard where it’s wet and it has a funky old mildew smell and chewing of the paws and hotspots. He had some weight loss suddenly and loss of appetite and we thought it was a food allergy and maybe he didn’t like food but he changed and he would eat it. I was wondering does he maybe have the fungal/yeast infection called “BLASTOMYCOSIS” He has symptoms of it, plus hair like the photo

Blastomycosis causes nodules in the skin that develop draining tracts and I don't think your picture looks consistent with blastomycosis. Blastomycosis is a serious fungal infection and requires oral antifungal medications for treatment. Malassezia yeast can cause skin infections with hair loss, redness, and a distinct odor and some people claim that apple cider vinegar can help although more often treating the underlying cause (such as a food or environmental allergy) and giving oral medications and topical medications like ketoconazole are more helpful. I would not expect a decrease in appetite and weight loss from a malassezia infection. The bottom line is I think it sounds like you need to see your veterinarian for a thorough physical exam and potential some diagnostic testing.
