Moving a large dog with hip pain: How to ensure comfort and safe loading?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 16 years and 7 months old | 110 lbs

we have to move fri. montana to Virginia and our 6 year old GS hip has gotten hurt and he in a lot of pain he has Hip Dis. we were waiting for something like this to take him in for surgery. My ? is can we make him comfortable enough to make trip with meds? How can we load unload him ? any ideas? I can pick him up even if goes 110 really don't know what to do!

I would discuss pain medications with your vet. As long as he has a level, well-padded area for the ride it should be ok. You may need ramps for your vehicle or a special harness that will help you lift him in and out of the vehicle. This is a common harness for this purpose: https://helpemup.com
