My cat's tongue is cut from a fight. How do I treat the wound?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 years old

My cats have played chase and fight yesterday, but in the play one accidentally scratched the other in the mouth, there was little blood and I thought his gums are injured,he had difficult eating after that, I had to chop his food on small peaces, but today he feels worse and I opened his mouth to check and saw that the wound is on his tongue, not on the gums,so I'm worried,I don't know how I have to treat him, should i give him inside antibiotics or something topical on the wound? Thank you much

You won't be able to put anything on the tongue to treat topically. I would recommend having Melcho checked by a vet. The wound may need stitches to heal. The tongue is great at healing but the edges of the wound need to be close together to heal. Antibiotics would probably be a good idea.
