Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 years and 8 months old | 11 lbs
Hello, I have a 10 yr old indoor-only spayed female cat with no health problems. A month ago I introduced a neutered 13 wk old male kitten to the home. Both cats tolerate meals together and share one litter box w/o issues, but my older cat otherwise ignores the kitten most of the day, despite his efforts to play--older cat will growl/hiss, then usually run away. I was wondering what your professional opinion is on using holistic "essences" or oils to reduce stress for my old girl? Do they work?

I know some people feel that Bach’s flower essences, Rescue Remedy in particular, can be helpful in pets but there is no scientific research to back this up. It is probably safe to use flower essences since they primarily contain alcohol. You may want to try a pheromone diffuser or spray like Feliway - there is scientific evidence that this can help reduce stress.
