Why is my dog limping with a swollen leg and refusing to move?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 8 lbs

My dog hurt her leg I'm not sure how though. She went out in our backyard that is fenced and came back in limping . It's really swollen and now she is laying down but doesn't want to move at all.

Poor Angel. I would recommend taking Angel to a vet as soon as possible. It is possible she has fractured/broken her leg, injured soft tissue or luxated her elbow. If it is swollen and painful she most likely needs an x-ray and pain medication to keep her comfortable. Hope that helps
