Why should I spay my indoor female cat if she's always inside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 27 days old | 4 lbs

If my female cat is an indoor cat, without any chance of getting out, why would I need to get her spayed?

There are a few reasons spaying is still recommended. The first is that it’s impossible to guarantee that Pango will never slip out the door - cats can be quite sneaky and get outside with no one noticing, and a cat in heat might be more interested in trying to get outside. Intact female cats are prone to developing uterine infections and mammary diseases. Finally, female cats in heat can be annoying - they tend to be very vocal especially at night and seek attention frequently, and the heat cycle can last for months if they are not bred.
