Why is my cat still lethargic and struggling to move after vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8.66 lbs

y cat seems to be sleeping all day,all night for the past 5 days & having a harder time getting up from his bed/walking or climbing to places that was easy for him. I took him to the vet & they said everything is fine with him that he does look a little ill but it’s nothing serious (they did give him medicine for “pain” and for his fleas, eyes because they get swollen) but i’m getting worried more and more everyday because he seems like he’s not getting any better. He is eating &drinking water

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m so sorry to hear about Quavo. I would say if he is not improving, it’s time for more testing. Bloodwork and/or X-rays may give us a better idea of what’s going on. X-rays look for things like large heart, severe arthritis, and (heaven forbid) obvious cancer. Bloodwork will indicate kidney and liver function, diabetes, and infection in some cases. I do also agree with treating for pain. Many times pain looks exactly like what you describe so definitely give the pain medication as directed. An arthritis “flare up” can cause pretty debilitating pain and is high on my list if Quavo is 10 or more. Best wishes to you and Quavo!
