My puppy has diarrhea and gas for two days. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 2 days old | 22 lbs

Phoenix has had diarrhea with gas for two nights now. She may have eaten a few bougainvillea leaves but we are still concerned. She is eating and drinking and playing like normal. During the night, she is pooping almost every hour up until nothing really comes out but a drop of water. The poop has no blood in it and no form. We have stopped treats in case it is one of those but she did not have anything new that our 1-yr old dog did not have and he is fine.

Poor Phoenix! The bougainvillea leaves are classified as mildly toxic to dogs, and it does cause diarrhea. That could be the cause of her diarrhea, but it could also be intestinal worms, a GI illness, or a foreign body causing it. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, but because she has had diarrhea for two days now, it's time to see the vet. Any dog who has diarrhea for longer than 24 hours should see a vet. I would take her into one today to get checked out. Best of luck.
