Do indoor Chihuahuas need collars if they try to remove them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | 1 year and 5 months old | 2.7 lbs

I brought 2 collars for my 2 Chihuahua 's but they will not let them be, they try to get out of them, and even get them caught in their mouths, they ate indoors trained. With pads. So should I make them where a collar...,? And if so what kind so they won't do this.

If your dogs are only ever indoors and never are leash walked there is no need for them to be wearing a collar. The only reason for wearing a collar would be to attach your dogs' names and home address in case they run away. However if your dogs are microchipped, then there would be no need for that. You could also try a harness on them which you take off when they are at home, and only put on for walkies. Try to get them used to the harness by putting it on at home and diverting their attention so they will not try to chew it off. It will take some time for them to get used to it.
