My two dogs fought. How can I get them to live together safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 6 years and 8 months old | 75 lbs

I am the owner of two dogs, Winnie the pug and Benny the Labrador but they do not get along. Benny attacked Winnie months ago and my family are not sure how to handle it now. We try walking them together but it doesn’t seem enough. We see Benny wants to play but we are scared he will try kill Winnie again. It has been awhile since this happened and i fear they have become territorial. Any advice on what we should do next to help them get along and live together without fear he will hurt her?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Usually these behaviors can be corrected but this usually requires in person training by a qualified dog trainer. I recommend you consider hiring a qualified dog trainer to work with you in person. I think with the appropriate training they may learn to get along great so that you do not have to fear this any longer. Otherwise, they may be fine but it is a bit of an uncertainty if it will happen again. Good luck and have a good day!
