My 8-week-old kitten's poop has a thick casing. Is it worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 2 days old

I have three kittens that are approximately 8 weeks old. They’re raw fed, and have been for weeks with great success. I noticed last night that there was a thick casing around the poop of two. They have not yet had their shots or been dewormed (they were my feral stray’s kittens, and they weren’t brought in until a few weeks ago—also hadn’t seen anything resembling worms prior to last night), but they go to the vet for an exam on Friday. Wanted to check prior to going in with a stool sample.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about the appearance of the stool and I don’t think it looks like an intestinal parasite. I would watch for blood in the stool or diarrhea. I definitely think you should keep your appointment since intestinal parasites certainly could be a concern (often there are no signs) and your kittens should probably start their vaccine series.
