My cat has an eye growth that's bleeding. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 18 years and 5 months old | 8 lbs

Jack has a growth by his eye that he’s had for about a year or so. This is the biggest it’s ever been. Sometimes I can squeeze a little fluid out if it to make it a bit smaller, as I worry it interferes with his vision. This morning it had bled, maybe from a scratch? What kind of growth is it, and should I be worried that it’s bleeding?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jack. He will need to see his veterinarian for a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate. The veterinarian will use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will allow you to know the type of mass and if it appears cancerous or not. From there, decisions can be made on management for him. I hope this information helps!
