Is one Apoquel dose enough for my dog's itching with an eye ulcer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 7 years and 11 months old | 14.5 lbs

Hi lily has an eye ulcer so her prednicare has to be stopped whilst it heals to stop her itching my vet has given me a few days of apoquel to tide her over as apoquel only works on her briefly then just doesn't The vet instructions on the box says 1 a day but I thought when they first start it its a loading dose of 2 a day Even though she will only be on it a few days will 1 a day still be adequate ?

You are correct in that most pets are started and maintained on the twice a day dosage. We can’t legally go against what your vet says without establishing a pet client relationship after physical exam, but you can do what you think will achieve the desired results for your pets itchy skin knowning that it is safe for twice daily dosage with this medication. Best of luck with your pet Lily and I hope that her eye ulcer resolves quickly so that she can resume her normal allergy treatment. Take care.
