My 1-year-old dog missed his distemper booster. Should he get one?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 35 lbs

I heard the distemper is present in my towns animal shelters right now and so my town is giving booster shots for free one day out of the week. Anyway my question is my boy just turned 1 at hasn't had his booster since he was 5 or 6 months old. Should I get him another shot?

This depends upon how many vaccines he received as a pup. If he received his full vaccine course of 2-3 shots, then a booster 6-1onths later is recommended and yes, i would get him a booster now. If he only received a single vaccine originally then i would restart his full course as soon as possible given the risk of exposure
