Bearded dragon ripped nail. What Betadine dilution for swollen wound?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! My 12 year old bearded dragon has ripped her front left pinky nail completely out from running around her cage. It is swollen and I want to sterilize the wound. What dilution of betadine should I use? She’s not exhibiting any signs of pain, is eating well, has appropriate heat and light, and there is no active bleeding, but the swelling is concerning me. Thank you for your time!

Dilute it until it looks like weak tea. A general guideline is 1 part Betadine to 10 parts sterile water/saline. This solution won't "sterilize" the wound, but it will keep it clean. Consider using paper towels as substrate until the toe heals.
