Will my dog's fur grow back after a tail skin infection heals?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Parson Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 20.1 lbs

My Parson Russell Terrier had a skin infection on his tail and I would like to know if the fur will grow back on that area as it is almost healed...YET, he kept getting to it even w/ the Elizabethan Collars so it got agitated a few times. Thank you and have a great weekend.

Hi and thanks for posting! If the infection on his tail is healing or is close to fully healed, it may take 2-4 weeks for the hair to grow back in that area. Sometimes, however if the infection is severe enough and leaves scar tissue in the area, the hair may not grow back fully. I hope this helps and best of luck!
