How long do rabbit ear mites live off-host? Will my bunny get reinfected from its shed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

how long do ear mites survive without a host? if i give the bunny ivermectin will he get reinfected from the shed that he lives in, once treatment is over? the shed is made out of wood. will the ear mites die on their own in the environment by the time the three weak treatment is over? p.s the rabbit will still be inside the shed during treatment will that affect his progress?

Studies have shown that ear mites can live for about 72 hours without a host. so by the time the rabbit is treatedd it should not get reinfected. Of course it would be better to keep the rabbit somewhere else for about 72 hrs so that the mites which are not on the rabbit will die off.
