My dog has a small brown scaly lump. Could it be a wart or cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old

Hi, my dog has a small scaly round brown lump that appears to only be on the surface on the skin. I am worried if I need to be concerned about cancer or if it is something more simple like a wart? She has had lumps before observed by our vet which have been pimples and skin tag like things of no concern. Pic attached below. Thanks

Thanks for sending the picture! It appears to be a wart like growth with a small scab on top. These are common in small breed dogs. If it grows or changes rapidly, then I would still have her veterinarian check it out. Otherwise I do not suspect it will be a problem for her. You can try to clean the scab off for her. Good luck!
