Bringing flea-treated cat home: Will my house and dog get fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old

My son's apartment is infested with fleas from his roommates 2 cats. My son's cat, Louie, now has fleas. He was treated on September 11th with Revolution. The roommate is still not treating his cats. I am going to pick up Louie. We are going to give him a CAPSTAR about 3 hours before I get him. I'm taking him straight to our groomer for a bath. Then I'm going to bring him home to our house. We have a dog who is treated with Frontline Plus. Do you think we will be ok and not get fleas???

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This will depend on if you are able to get rid of the fleas before then. You are doing the right thing by using the Capstar and bathing him but that does not guarantee that no more fleas will be present. I think it would be best to keep them separate for at least a few days to a week until you get a feel of how well controlled Louie’s flea infestation is. Remember that you can use Capstar daily to effect. Remember to vacuum all the surfaces that have contact with him. Good luck and have a great day!
