Cat has red face patch after olive oil. Is it serious? Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | spayed | 5 years and 2 months old | 11 lbs

There's a small, rough red patch on my cat's face that appeared just this morning. I'm assuming it's an allergy since I caught her lapping up spilled olive oil yesterday, and I think she consumed a considerable amount. My cat is extremely aggressive when it comes to putting her in the carrier, so I'd rather not take her to the vet, unless it's something really serious that won't go away on its own. It doesn't seem to bother her at all and she's not scratching the area. What could it be?

Poor Sasha! It could be that she injured herself causing this spot. I would clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
