My puppy ate chapstick. Is it safe or could he get sick from it?

Zeus is getting into everything. He was licking and chewing on some chapstick my daughter left on the floor. Will he get sick?

Chapstick is mostly made of Vaseline which won’t hurt him. I’m sure he’s just being an active puppy. This is like having a toddler and you should puppy proof your home. He will get better once he’s older. In the meantime give him plenty of exercise so he’s very tired, and lots of toys that are safe for him. I recommend confining him in a crate or small area when no one is able to watch him. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Zeus.

Check the packaging to make sure it doesn't contain xylitol. If there is xylitol in it, take Kona into a vet immediately. Otherwise, licking it shouldn't cause a problem if there is no xylitol, but the plastic may cause some issues if he swallowed any pieces. You could see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in the feces, lethargy, or anorexia. If you see any of those signs, take him into a vet right away. Hopefully, though, he will be just fine. I hope this helps!
