Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 lbs
My male neutered cat : 15 years old, DSH, 17 lbs. Had hyperthyroidism cured last year through I-131 treatment. Recently had latest wellness exam ( 3rd since 1-131 treatment). Got complete blood work. TT4 remains normal. SDMA 10, Crea 1.6, BUN 30. But his fPLI is 38.8 -- super high! Monocytes 735. Had no distress symptoms at wellness exam, except 1 lb. of weight loss from the previous visit. Has normal appetite, solid poop. Still playful at times. What does his fPLI value mean??

A high fPLI test (Pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity) value is an indication of an inflammation of the pancreas of your cat. We are finding more and more cats with chronic pancreatitis and one way of treating this is with a diet food. You should ask your veterinarian to discuss this value with you and whether he thinks it warrants treatment or not. This seems to be a problem mainly in older kitties and there really is no known causal therapy. So the therapy is symptomatic and depends on clinical signs.
