Why is my rabbit lethargic with diarrhea, bleeding, and sores?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered

Our rabbit was 4 years old when we got him in February. Tonight while bathing him, we noticed three sores on his testis. What are those? The other sore is black and on the other one. He seems to be bleeding when he poops. Very lethargic lately. And diarrhea for 2 days.

I am very sorry that this is happening to you and Saturn. It sounds like Saturn is very sick, and I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian as soon as you can. Diarrhea in rabbits is very serious, and can indicate a severe infection. If there is also blood associated with the diarrhea, that is even more serious. As far as the sores are concerned, I didn't see you mention if Saturn went outside or not. These areas may be infections related to the diarrhea (can irritate the skin), but they can also be due to parasites as well. While Saturn is at the veterinarian to evaluate his diarrhea, they can also evaluate these areas. They may recommend diagnostics to evaluate why he is having diarrhea, such as blood work to evaluate his systemic health and looking at a sample of the feces under the microscope. They also can then recommend treatments such as antibiotics and pain relieving medications. Please do not give Saturn any human medications at home, as many of these can be harmful to rabbits. I wish you the best of luck with this, and I hope that Saturn feels better.
