My dog has a seroma after surgery. Should she walk or limit movement?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Olde English Bulldogge | Female | spayed | 6 years and 3 months old | 70 lbs

My dog had surgery on Thursday to remove a mass from her neck, Saturday i noticed some swelling (felt like fluid) we got it checked by the vets & they confirmed it was seroma. I have been told to do warm & cold compresses & she can go on light walks as helps blood flow but i have read online to limit movement? What is best?? I have added a picture, btw she has a bandage & jumper to stop her scratching as she has already caught the stitches this is cleaned & changed twice a day.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think there are many opinions on rest versus light activity. I am in the group of exercise restriction. I would trust what your Vet said as they did the surgery and the exam. Hopefully the body will reabsorb the fluid soon. Good luck!
