Is my dog's dark, crusty paw scab healing normally after vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old

My dog had allergies which were treated with a steroid, then he kept licking his front paw and a lump like blister formed. We went to a vet and he squeezed it and said he didn't see anything come out that looked as if something was lodged. He gave us pain killers, ant-biotic, and a cone. It has been three days and my dog has kind a dark crusty scab that is flaking off. Is this normal healing?

Yes, that sounds like normal healing. If they recommended cleaning the area then I would do that to keep it draining. Use the medication as directed and with the cone to prevent licking I expect this to heal in a week to ten days.
