Can I use amoxiclav for a stray dog's open wound and raw legs?

Hi there, I live in Nepal and there are a lot of stray dogs. I saw one today that has a big wound on his back open and he can't walk properly as his inside legs are so raw (red with no hair). Please could you tell me if 500mg of amoxiclav twice a day for 7 days plus wound cleaning is sufficient. Please don't say call a vet because the situation here in Nepal does not provide this service for stray dogs and I cannot handle him into a taxi. Many thanks.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Stray dog! I understand your situation and saddened there is not close veterinary care. Legally we can't prescribe medications for animals we can't actually touch and examine. Cleaning the wound is appropriate with water and a mild soap. You can also apply an antibiotic ointment. Amoxi/clav is dosed 15-20 mm/kg twice daily. A 500mg tablet is too much. I wish you the best!
