My crested gecko dropped its tail after a cat attack. Neosporin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

The household cat got ahold of my crestie and she dropped her tail and has superficial scratches. I have some neosporin for them but would like other opinions.

There is no need to put neosporin or any other antibiotic on the tail wound. This will heal without intervention. He will not regrow a tail. I would not put Neosporin on his scratches, as it may be toxic to some reptiles, especially if the Neosporin ointment also contains pain medicine. Just keep an eye on the tail stump. Should it become infected, he will need to be seen by a vet. There is usually no need for antibiotics.
