Why does my dog act defiant and dramatic when I tell her no?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years and 8 months old | 9 lbs

Lately when I tell my yorkie (6yr/F) "no" ussually about begging, She's almost defiant. Like a toddler would talk back, but without barking. She like "mouths a bark and play bows. If I am persistent with my command and tell her to go lay down she does the same behavior, or THROWS her head to turn like an angry teenager, but then lays down right there and stares at me. Does this behavior mean anything? It's almost comical how dramatic she is, but I don't laugh.

I think she is just naughty and you are so in tune with her that you can actually interpret her actions and reactions. It's probably worth a good laugh on your side, however stay consequent and don;t let her play games with you. I think dogs, cats and many other animals can show far more emotions than we are all made to believe, and not everybody is able to see it.
