Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 9 days old | 37 lbs

My dog chewed a container that previously had rat poison in. He done it while I was out so i have no idea at what time but he hasnt consumed any direct I'm just concerned about residue? I dont actually know the make of the rat poison as it was bought a long time ago. I have checked gums and under belly there is no signs of whiteness bruising internal bleeding. No vomiting or diorhea. I'm possible just over panicing as i said he never actually consumed any 100% positive box was empty.

It is very unlikely that there would be enough residue to cause toxicity in a dog Ziggy's size as long as you are 100% certain that there was nothing left in the box. With all types of rodenticides you wouldn't necessarily see any signs of toxicity for 12-36 hours, but ingestion of the actual material would be necessary to cause toxicity. If you think there is any possibility that some could be left I would recommend taking a close look at the box and contacting the Pet Poison Helpline: www.petpoisonhelpline.com
