My cat lost weight, should I be concerned about her health long-term?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 2 months old | 12.6 lbs

I weighed my cat today 9/10/18 and she weighs 9.5 pounds. The last time she was weighed was 2/17/17 and she weighed 10.6 pounds. Should I be concerned?

As long as she’s acting normally, eating and drinking fine then I’m not overly concerned about it. Cats often are more active in the spring and summer and she may have lost weight from that. I would weigh her monthly and if the weight loss continues or she is lethargic, has a poor haircoat, or isn’t eating well then take her in for an exam soon.
