My dog still has fleas after Frontline. Can I reapply or switch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 54 lbs

On August 21 I used Frontline flea treatment on my dog, per the instructions. He regularly sleeps in bed with me. The next morning there was a large oily spot left behind on my sheets from where he had been laying. I believe it was residue from the Frontline treatment that had not fully soaked into his skin yet. Come today, about 20 days after the initial application, I have seen a few fleas in his fur and I am worried that the treatment may not have had full affect. Can I reapply a new dose?

It is safe to reapply the Frontline now, but in my experience, it doesn't have great flea protection. You may have better luck with Advantage products or a Seresto collar. The best flea protection is the prescription oral flea preventatives, like Bravecto or Nexgard.
