My dog has tooth tartar. Is it urgent or can I wait for cleaning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 2 months old | 89 lbs

I am planning to get my 3 year old chocolate lab’s teeth professionally cleaned under anesthesia in the next several months. Looking at these photos, does it look like just regular tarter or something more serious that needs to be addressed more urgently?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do not see anything urgent regarding Harley Mason's teeth! The red spot in the back could be from an injury, from chewing on something or from tartar touching the gums. You can take your time scheduling a dental cleaning. Have a good day!
