My dog is scratching and hyper after backyard, no rash. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 7 years and 2 months old | 20 lbs

My 7 year old Havanese, takes A-mat shots for allergies, came in from our backyard scratching, rolling around and hyper. To my knowledge there is nothing he can get into in the backyard but this persisted through the night. No visible rashes or bites.

I am sorry to hear about Dominick! I haven't heard of A-mat shots that you mention. I would recommend giving him a bath in case there was something he came into contact with outside that was irritating to him. You can also call your vet and ask if it would be safe to give him an anthistamine like Benadryl or Zyrtec (your vet knows what medications he may already be on and his health status so can advsie better whether this would be safe for him). If despite these steps he is still itching I would recommend bringing him in for an examination at his vet.
