My hamster’s behind is red, dry/scabs, and losing hair. It seems like it’s spreading because it used to be small. I tried washing it off at first because it look like he was dirty/dry fur. I don’t know if it’s from stress or if the other hamster is hurting him. I’ve sperated the injured on to see if he heals but what should I do?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center. Hairloss & red skin could be an indication of some type of allergic response, ectoparasites like fleas, lice or mites, or even ringworm. A quick visit with your verterinarian will sort things out quickly & make sure Seamus' skin issues are not too serious. Take care.
