Why is my dog's runny eye not improving with allergy treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | 2 years and 10 months old | 45 lbs

My Red Heeler/Australian Shepherd has one runny eye. My Vet said he's allergic to Pedigree Dog Food and suggested Iamsand Benadryl, which I've done, but, after a 6 weeks of following Vets directions, there is absolutely NO improvement. Any suggestions?

I recommend you get the eye rechecked, possibly for in turned or stray eyelashes which may be causing ongoing irritation. Blocked test ducts can also cause tear overflow. Referral to a specialist ophthalmologist may be worthwhile considering
