My blind dog attacked my kitten. Can dogs and cats coexist safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 3 month old kitten, that died yesterday. What happened was my dog bit her, my dog is blind. I don’t know if he just mistaken her as a rat or he really hates cats. It’s really devastating. I never knew he would do that. We’ve been keeping them away because he barks at her but then one day she escaped and I was about to get her when my dog just ran towards her then he just started biting her and I cried so hard. It really broke my heart when he did that but I couldn’t hurt him.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, some dogs will never acclimatise to cats and will act as a predator -prey species regardless of age or infirmity. I would not recommend another cat or kitten as he is likely to attempt to attack again.
