My dog got prednisone. Can humans take it, or is it only for pets?

My dog got prescribed prednisone, and I was wondering if humans can take those as well? Or is it just for animals

Prednisone is also used in humans, having said that taking a steroidal prescription medication that has been prescribe to your dog and not to you is very dangerous and risky, i would definitely not recommend doing that.

    Absolutely not. This medication must be given under the direct supervision of a veterinarian due to it's high potential for side effects and incorrect dosing. If your needs steroids (like prednisone) he must be examined by a vet.

I took him to vet for this eye lid problem as shown in attach photo and vet told me it's infection but to me it's look like eye lid inflammation but I don't know what it is exactly..he told me to give him prednisone 10mg twice only one day and earlie
Yes, it's fine to use prednisone this way. It can be used daily in some dogs for long periods of time to manage certain conditions, so there is definitely no problem with giving it for a day here and there, as long as you're following your veterinarian's instructions.

Can dog on Prednisone take herbs for Cushings
Cushing's is a disease characterized by an excess of cortisol, and prednisone is a corticosteroid that acts like cortisol in the body. So if a dog is taking prednisone for a medical condition herbs to treat Cushing's would potentially counteract the prednisone, and I wouldn't recommend them.

A 10mg tablet for a 48lb (0.48mg/lb) dog would not be expected to create any complications (dosages as high as 4mg/lb are used in emergency and severe cases). She may have an increased thirst but otherwise is unlikely to have any ill effects. Continue to monitor just in case, any vomiting/diarrhea/bloody stool should be reported to your vet

how much predisone do you give a 6 or 10 dog for allergies? I have some for my bigger dog & they are showing the same loss of hair and skin issues/ which is not mange. I have been giving the smaller dogs benadryl but it is not helping.
Sorry, we cannot advise about medication dosage for your dog. This is against the law and potentially dangerous without having seen the dog before. While it may seem similar to your other dog, there may be something else going on, or a condition that precludes the use of steroids. It's actually odd for them to both have the same problem and does make me suspicious of mange. Even if they tested negative before, I reccomend bringing taking them back for another test, because it's possible that it was missed before. If they do have mange, then prednisone can make the condition worse.

Our dog was taking dexamethaszone for edema and we ran out our vet said we can not get refill until monday. Will prednisone work similarly?
They are both in the same class of drugs and do the same thing but dexamethasone is a lot stronger than prednisone. It depends on why he is on it and how long you have been on it. Typically with either of these drugs, the goal is to ween off them by gradually decreasing the dose

Steroids can be used but only after you get a specific prescription with specific dosage from your veterinarian, you should never give your dog this medication without getting a prescription as the potential side effects can be extremely severe, especially if not given at an accurate dosage.

Many different antibiotics are used for both humans and dogs, the only difference is the dose given. Antibiotics should not be given without the advice of your veterinarian. My dog takes 5 mg Prednisone daily for 5 days, Is it safe not to wean him off Prednisone gradually? Vet said nothing about it.
Your dog should be weaned off Prednisone slowly. In many ways, prednisone is similar to the corticosteroid hormones cortisol and aldosterone produced by the adrenal glands located along each kidney. Because of this, when taking prednisone, the adrenal glands start decreasing their production of cortisol. It would be too shocking for the adrenal glands to find themselves out of the blue in need of producing cortisol in large amounts again, so by tapering the prednisone gradually, the glands are given some time to resume their normal function. The main risk is what is called an " addisonian crisis" or "iatrogenic hypoadrenocorticism" which can be life threatening and can cause the dog to go into shock. This can happen when the prednisone is stopped out of the blue and the adrenal glands are dormant because they weren't given a chance to gradually become active again.
