My puppy swallowed a cloth. When should I worry about blockage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 5 days old | 3 lbs

My lab puppy swallowed a small (5*5inch) muslin cloth hanky about 5 hours back...He is active and playful as usual and has not vomited it out. What should I do? Will it past in his stools or will it need further intervention? Please guide, I'm quite worried.

Oh Rocky! I would recommend monitoring his eating and defecating closely. It is possible he will pass the material in his feces. IF at any time you feel Rocky is not eating, vomiting or not defecating I would recommend taking Rocky to the vet for x-rays to see if the cloth is causing a blockage of his intestines. IF he is acting normal I would feed him and allow him to have normal activity
